Anticipated King Tides and the Potential for Lowland Flooding This Weekend and Next Week

Posted on January 19, 2023

King Tides are anticipated for Port Orchard during the early morning/AM hours starting Saturday, January 21st, and are expected to continue through Wednesday, January 25th.  There is a potential for lowland flooding due to exceptionally high tides during this time and the inability of stormwater flows to discharge into receiving waters.  Public Works staff will be monitoring stormwater conditions downtown  (HWY 16/Bay St) and may need to implement street closures/detours to help mitigate any potential damage to local businesses caused by vehicles driving through flood conditions.  Please be mindful of these potential conditions while driving on Bay St.  Free sandbags for citizens are available at the Public Works Facility located at 1535 Vivian Ct, and downtown at 640 Bay St.
