The City is excited to announce a celebration for the completion of the Tremont Street Widening Project is scheduled for Friday, August 2, 2019, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 151 Tremont Street. Senator Randall, Representative Caldier, Representative Young, and retired Senator Angel will be in attendance.

The public is encouraged to attend.

Background: On Friday, July 7, 2017, a groundbreaking ceremony was held and delegates, the Mayor, Councilmembers, contractors and the public were in attendance to celebrate the beginning of this project.

Tremont Street is the gateway to the City of Port Orchard, and completion of this project reflects the City’s commitment to economic development, safety and the accommodation of a variety of transportation modes. Previously this was a two-lane road with two lighted intersections. The project widened the street, allowing for 4-lanes plus sidewalks, bicycle lane, utility improvements and safety upgrades. Roundabouts are now located at the Tremont Street and South Kitsap Boulevard intersection and Tremont Street and Pottery Avenue intersection.

A project of this scope and complexity is unusual for a city of Port Orchard’s size and required the City to creatively seek a variety of funding sources. The City received $8 million from the State Transportation Improvement Board, $3 million from the Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council, and a $2 million Legislative appropriation in the 2017 State transportation budget.

The City would like to thank everyone who was involved, whom without their assistance, guidance and support, this project would not have occurred.
