As the City of Port Orchard braces for potential winter weather, the City will also experience a convergence of King Tides through the weekend and next week. Residents and business owners are urged to take precautions to mitigate potential flooding risks. The combined effects of these weather phenomena may result in raised water levels, posing a threat to areas near the shoreline and impacting businesses in downtown Port Orchard.
In response to the impending weather conditions, the City is proactively advising residents and business owners to be prepared and stay informed about how to respond to potential flooding events. Taking simple yet crucial steps can make a significant difference in safeguarding both property and public spaces.
The City recommends the following measures:
- Keep Catch Basin Drains Clear: Residents are encouraged to assist in maintaining clear catch basin drains. Ensuring these drainage systems are free from debris helps facilitate proper water flow and reduces the risk of localized flooding.
- Sandbag Distribution for Flood Mitigation: Sandbags are available for residents and businesses to pick up, located conveniently near 632 Bay Street on the east side of the building. These sandbags serve as an effective means of flood mitigation, helping to divert and contain rising waters.
