FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PORT ORCHARD, WA [October 14, 2025] – The City of Port Orchard is moving forward with the next steps in the development of the Bay Street Pedestrian Pathway. Beginning October 22, 2025, demolition will commence on existing overwater structures as part of the future phases of the trail.
All required permits have been secured, and the City has contracted the work to a qualified contractor who will have 75 calendar days to complete the demolition phase. This work marks a significant milestone in the City’s long-term vision to enhance waterfront access and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
While the overwater structures will be removed during this phase, all pilings will remain in place until the construction of the pathway itself begins in a future phase. This approach ensures environmental compliance and construction efficiency as the project progresses.
“This is an exciting step forward in realizing the full potential of our waterfront trail system,” said Mayor Robert Putaansuu. “The Bay Street Pedestrian Pathway is a key investment in recreation, mobility, and quality of life for our community.”
The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this phase of work and will continue to provide updates as the project advances.
