Sidney Ave Waterfront Totem Pole Restoration

Posted on June 7, 2023

The City is honored to be working with the Makah Tribe on the restoration of the Sidney Ave Waterfront Totem Pole, located downtown adjacent to the Kitsap Regional Library.  Bill Martin Jr. (grandson of the original carver – Frank Smith) will be performing the restoration over the next few weeks in Neah Bay.  It is anticipated the refurbished pole will be reinstalled in late June or early July.

This will be the 2nd restoration of the pole since it was installed in the 1980s.  The 1st restoration was completed by Frank Smith Jr in 2006.  It is exciting that all work on the pole over the last few decades will be performed by three generations of the Smith family.
