Pre-approved ADUs
The City of Port Orchard is excited to announce that it is participating in a program to provide pre-approved accessory dwelling unit (ADU) plans for use free of charge in Kitsap County.
The program is being led by the Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council (KRCC) with participation from Kitsap County, Bremerton, Port Orchard, Bainbridge Island, and Poulsbo. Our involvement aims to encourage the construction of more ADUs within the City of Port Orchard, helping to expand the availability of affordable housing in our community.

What is an ADU?
An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a smaller, independent residential dwelling unit located on the same lot as a stand-alone (i.e., detached) single-family home. ADUs go by many different names throughout the U.S., including accessory apartments, secondary suites, and granny flats. (Source: American Planning Association)
How much will it cost to use a pre-approved ADU plan? Anyone can use a pre-approved ADU plan in Port Orchard at no cost, as long as no modifications are made. This means you won’t need to pay an architect to use the pre-approved designs.
The City has provided an estimate outlining the permitting costs for the 600-square-foot ADU model. Please note that this estimate does not include utility connection fees.
Permit costs for larger ADU models will be slightly higher, while smaller models will cost slightly less. Final permit fees will be calculated at the time of payment.
